Can anyone think of examples?

Only one we can think of is "bunny boiler" but surely there must be more

Originally so, but now used in a much wider context in USA. Obama was accused of "Shark jumping" when, in opposition in 2007 or so, he held press conferences with a faux-presidential crest on his "lectern".

More recently, one journalist wrote Obama had jumped the shark when he wrote to schools asking them to allow transgender children to use whichever bathroom they "identified" with.

Happy Days has a lot to answer for.

Jumping the shark is more specifically about scriptwriters scraping the barrel to generate interest on a dead format than merely something unlikely and incongruous.

That is actually really well explained. There are quite a few examples of that about.

Half the replies to this thread are still gonna be movie mis-quotes though.
